Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re new to injection moulding or exploring a new project with us, we’ve answered some common questions below. From materials and tooling to production lead times, these FAQs are designed to help you better understand how injection moulding works and what UB Plastics can offer.
Injection moulding is a manufacturing process used to produce high volumes of plastic parts. Molten plastic is injected into a precision-engineered mould, where it cools and solidifies into the final shape. Injection moulding is a highly efficient and cost-effective process for manufacturing hundreds, thousands or millions of identical plastic components, for use in a multitude of industries.
We typically work with food-grade polymers, particularly thermoplastics such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (HDPE, LLDPE), and elastomer blends, depending on the application. Each material is selected for durability, compliance, and suitability for injection moulding.
Injection moulding offers fast cycle times, consistent part quality, and low per-unit costs at scale. It’s ideal for producing millions of identical plastic components efficiently and reliably. We’re happy to discuss the specifics and economics of your project, to assess viability and profitability for you.
This depends on the complexity of the design and whether new tooling is required. Typically, design, tooling and sampling can take 4–12 weeks before production begins.
Yes. We offer design support to ensure your product is optimised for the injection moulding process, which helps improve performance and reduce costs during production.
We operate 23 machines ranging from 35 to 220 tonnes, capable of producing small to medium-sized plastic parts with dimensions from a few millimetres up to around 500mm.
Yes, we use in-mould labelling technology for high-speed, multi-colour branding directly onto parts like caps, tubs and lids. It offers a durable, high-quality finish and is applied directly in the mould, during the moulding process. We also offer colour pad printing, which can add logos or detailing to products after production.
Absolutely. We produce food-grade injection moulded packaging, including ice cream tubs, lids and cutlery, and a variety of products used in the beverage and brewing industry. We’re highly experienced in using materials and processes compliant with food contact regulations.
Typical dimensional tolerances for injection moulded parts are ±0.1mm, but this depends on material, part geometry and tool design. We’ll work with you to define achievable tolerances during the design and DFM stages, as it can vary on a project-by-project basis.
Our minimum order quantity varies depending on the product, part size and whether custom tooling is required. For standard brewing components like caps, shives or pegs, typical MOQs start from 5,000 to 10,000 units. For custom or branded parts, MOQs may be higher due to tooling and setup costs — we’re happy to discuss options based on your project.
To quote accurately, we ideally require a 3D CAD file (STEP/IGES), material requirements, estimated annual volumes, colour or finishing needs, and any special tolerances or compliance standards. The more information available from the outset, the smoother our quotation process.
Yes. We offer flexible stockholding, scheduled deliveries and Kanban-style replenishment to align with your production line requirements and minimise inventory costs. Learn more on our Packaging & Delivery page.
